My education at the University Level was Music Theory and Composition. In addition to studying the principles of diatonic  and chromatic music theory, I also studied the history of Western musical principles in sound construction and its forms over the ages.

POLYPHONY

Polyphony is a musical texture consisting of two or more independent melodic lines sounding simultaneously. It comes from the Greek for "many sounds". Unlike homophony—where a single dominant melody is supported by chords—polyphony gives all voices equal importance.

COUNTERPOINT

Often used interchangeably with polyphony, this refers to the relationship between the independent lines
